The flush cleans the system; the filter and inhibitor help keep it clean. This guide explains magnetic filter cleaning, why inhibitor matters after a flush, and what to check on your own system.

In short

A magnetic filter catches the metallic sludge that circulates in heating water, and magnetic filter cleaning is how you see what the system is producing. Inhibitor slows the corrosion that creates the sludge in the first place. Together they protect a freshly flushed system, which is why both belong in a proper power flush. All power flushing work is carried out by a fully qualified Gas Safe registered engineer.

An honest note

A filter and inhibitor help protect a system; they do not make it immortal. Neither can reverse existing corrosion damage or fix mechanical faults, and no product stops corrosion completely. What they do is slow the build-up down and give you early warning through the filter. Notes about filter and inhibitor work may support your paperwork but do not themselves validate a boiler warranty.

How often should a magnetic filter be cleaned?

Typically at the annual boiler service, and always as part of a power flush. A filter that fills quickly between cleans is a sign the system is still producing sludge.

Is the work carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer?

Yes. All power flushing work is carried out by a fully qualified Gas Safe registered engineer.

Do I need a filter if my system has just been flushed?

A filter is not compulsory, but after a flush it is the cheapest insurance the system has, because it catches new debris before it reaches the boiler. We will tell you honestly whether one would help.

Is inhibitor included in your power flush?

Yes, where suitable for the system. It is added after cleaning and can be noted on your completion record.
